Shipping & Returns
From the kiln to your door
Shipping one-of-one ceramics is taken as seriously as making them. Here is exactly how it works.
Packing
Every piece is packed by hand in the studio, double-boxed with the ceramic suspended away from all six walls of the outer box. Ceramics survive shipping when they cannot reach the wall of the box — that is the whole science of it, applied carefully to every order.
Where work ships
Work ships from Iceland. Available destinations and exact shipping costs are shown at checkout — the cost is calculated from the destination and the weight of your order before you pay, with no surprises after. If your country is not offered at checkout, write to the studio and shipping there can usually be arranged.
Timing
Available pieces are dispatched within a few working days of the order. Delivery time then depends on the destination and is estimated at checkout. International parcels from Iceland typically take one to three weeks depending on the country and customs.
Import duties or VAT charged by your country on arrival are the buyer's responsibility — this is standard for goods shipped from Iceland, which is outside the EU customs area.
If a piece arrives damaged
Photograph the box and the piece as they arrived and email matiass@matiasspreiss.com within 48 hours of delivery. Damage in transit is the studio’s problem to solve, not yours — you will be refunded or, where a comparable piece exists, offered a replacement. Because each piece is one of one, an exact replacement is usually not possible.
Returns
If a piece is not right for you, you have a legal 14-day right of withdrawal: email the studio within 14 days of delivery, then send the piece back within 14 days of that notice, in its original double-boxed packing. Return shipping is paid by the buyer; a tracked, insured service is strongly recommended. The refund — the piece plus the original standard delivery cost — goes to your original payment method once the piece arrives back intact. The exact terms, including the model withdrawal form, are in the Terms & Conditions.
One honest note: photographs on this site are of the actual piece you receive, not a sample — so what you see is what arrives. If you are unsure about scale or color before ordering, ask; more photographs of any available piece can be sent.
