Bespoke work

Private commissions

Commissions are considered on a limited basis. The studio is one pair of hands, so bespoke work is taken on when it fits the making schedule.

What can be commissioned

Bespoke ceramic tableware for a single table: cups, bowls and serving pieces made as a set — related in clay, glaze and weight, each thrown individually. Also tea ware — yunomi and tea bowls — and single vessels. Tableware for restaurants and hotels is considered when the fit is right.

The studio does not reproduce another maker’s work, make large identical runs, or promise an exact glaze outcome: crystalline and crackle glazes are finished by the kiln, which is the reason to commission handmade work.

How a commission works

Write to the studio with the use, the number of pieces, and any forms or glazes from the gallery or archive you like. If it is a fit, you receive a simple proposal: forms, glaze direction and an honest making window.

What every commission includes

Each commissioned piece is entered in the Piece Registry with its clay body, glaze, firing notes, dimensions and photographs, like the studio’s numbered work, then packed by hand, double-boxed and shipped worldwide from Iceland with a care guide.

To begin, write to the studio. For the thinking behind the work, see the collector’s guide to high-end ceramics.
